आपदि किं करणीयं? “Aapadi kim karaneeeyam?"

An interesting dialogue in Sanskrit believed to have taken place between two great Indian scholars, Appayya Deekshitar and Neelakanta Deekshitar.

Appayya asked: आपदि किं करणीयं? “Aapadi kim karaneeeyam?”- What to do when in trouble?

Neelakanta replied: स्मरणीयं चरणयुगलमम्बायाः। "Smaraneyam charanayugalam Ambaayaam”
Think of the lotus feet of Ambal, the Divine Mother

Not convinced, Appayya asked again:
तत्स्मरणं किं कुरुते? ''Tat smaranam kim kuruthae?”- What can that thought do?

Neelakanta clarified: ब्रह्मादीनपि किंकरीकुरुते॥
''Brahmadeenapi kimkaree kuruthae”- Even Brahma and other gods will help you in all ways.

Stories of people who became great by Ambal’s grace galore in various ancient scriptures. The well-known poet Mahakavi Kalidasa who authored Raghuvamsam was an idiot before he was blessed by Kaali. Mookar was deaf and dumb from childhood. By Mother’s grace, he became a great genius. It is said that Chatrapati Shivaji prayed to Amba Bhavani and got Her blessings to establish the Mahratta Kingdom.

The grace of Divine Mother is unlimited. Her power is immeasurable. Her glory and splendour are indescribable. She gives us Bukti (material possessions) and Mukti (liberation). When in trouble, remember Her. Adore Her with full faith and deep devotion. It does not mean that you do not make any effort to address the problem. It only means that you will be assisted by a unseen Divine Force in your efforts.
