59 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 59)

RAISING GOOD CHILDREN

Thanjam piridhu illai eedhu alladhu, enru un thavannerikke
nenjam payila ninaiginrilen; orrai neelsilaiyum
anju ambum ikku alaraagi ninraay: ariyaar eninum
panju anju mel adiyaar, adiyaar perra paalaraiye.

Mother Abhirami! You are equipped with the matchless sugar cane-bow and five flower- arrows. I have nowhere to surrender except you.. Even after knowing all these, deliberately. I don't. learn and meditate on your divine path. Abhirami! Don't punish for my misdemeanors but bless me. In this world, women with soft feet which are as light as cotton bear the wrongs committed by their children. Similarly you shall bless me.

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 52 (Taming Brahma's Pride)

TAMING BRAHMA'S PRIDE

After the killing of the demon Aghasura, Krishna and his friends sat down on the banks of River Yamuna to have their lunch. They set free the calves to forage for green grass. The calves went deep into the forest and did not return for some time. Afraid of some mishap to their animals, the cowherd-boys wanted to go in search of the calves but Krishna told them to continue with their lunch and volunteered himself for the search. In the forest, Krishna was unable to find the calves; when he returned he saw that his friends had also vanished. In fact, Lord Brahma had stolen these calves and the cowherd boys, took them to a cave and made them asleep under the spell of his mystic power. He wished to see what Lord Krishna would do without the calves and cowherd boys. Through his divine powers, Krishna understood that this was the work of Lord Brahma. He decided to play a trick upon Lord Brahma himself.

Ganapati Muni (Kavyakantha)

"We are all educated but Ganapati Muni is education Itself"
- Kashi Krishnacharya, Famous Sanskrit Scholar

Vasistha Ganapati Muni (November 17, 1878 - July 25, 1936), famed as Kavyakantha , and popularly addressed as Nayana, was a mighty spiritual personality in his own right and had a large following of illustrious disciples. It is a standing testimony to his spiritual sincerity, humility, and intellectual honesty that he recognized the uniqueness of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi's teaching , accepted Him as his Guru, and proclaimed him as the Maharshi to the whole world.

For the various Sri Ramana followers, advocates, disciples, adherents, and historians, Ganapati Muni is pretty much known as the person that first gave the venerated Indian holy man the title/name Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi --- and as well, in 1911, introduced him to the Bhagavan's first western disciple, an Englishman by the name of Frank H. Humphreys.

58 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 58)

ATTAIN PEACE OF MIND

Abhirami! you are the lass with Lotus-shaped beautiful divine bosoms. You are graciously present in the Lotus flower which blossoms in the dawn and you also present in the Lotus of my mind. In times of distress, I have no where else to go except your unique Eye-lotus, Face-Lotus, comely Hands- Lotus and your Lotus feet.

Nabakalebar Puri Rath Yatra

The Rath Yatra Festival has been renamed as the Puri Nabakalebara Rath Yatra Festival.

The Puri Rath Yatra festival is based around the worship of Lord Jagannath (a reincarnation of Lords Vishnu and Krishna). It commemorates his annual visit to his birthplace, Gundicha Temple, and aunt's home along with his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra.

This year, after 19 years, the Jagannath Temple idols will be replaced by new ones in a ritual known as Nabakalebar (meaning "new body").

The Rath Yatra begins on the second day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon or bright fortnight) of the lunar month of Ashadha, as per the traditional Oriya Calendar. In 2015, it commences on July 18 and ends on July 30.

The Nabakalebar ritual takes place when the month of Ashadha is followed by another month of Ashadha (known as "double-Ashadha"). This only happens once every nine to 19 years, making it a rare event. In the last century, the Nabakalebara ritual was performed in 1912, 1931, 1950, 1969, 1977 and 1996.

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 51 (Slaying of Aghasura)

SLAYING OF AGHASURA

One day Krishna was playing with the boys in the forest. At that time a mighty Asura called Agha, who was the younger brother of Putana and Bakasura, came there under the direction of Kamsa. Even the Devas who were rendered immortal by Amrita were afraid of Agha. Aghasura reflected within himself thus, "This is the slayer of my brother and sister. I will take revenge now and kill Krishna along with Balarama and his friends.”

The wicked Asura assumed the huge body of a boa-constrictor, one Yojana (8 miles) in length and stout like a big hill. The extremities of his open mouth touched the clouds and the earth. It kept open its cave-like mouth in order to swallow Krishna and his associates. All the boys with all their calves clapped their hands and with a smile entered the mouth of the serpent. The serpent did not close its mouth. It waited with its mouth opened for Krishna. Krishna entered the mouth of the serpent and expanded Himself to huge dimensions in the throat of the Asura. The Asura died. Krishna gave fresh life to the cowherd boys and calves and came out with them from the mouth of the Asura. A brilliant light emanated from the huge body of the serpent and entered the body of Krishna.

57 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 57)

ERADICATE POVERTY

Aiyan alandhabadi iru naazhi kondu, andam ellaam

seyya pasundhamizhp paamaalaiyum kondu senru, poyyum
meyyum iyambavaiththaay: idhuvo, un_dhan meyyarule?

Abhirami! You are the Goddess ‘Kamakshi' who has received two measures of paddy grains offered to you by my father Shiva and with that paddy grains, you are performing charities so that the world could be saved from sins. Oh! Mother with your melodious Tamil, make me sing your praise and at the same time you make poets sing about mortals merely for pecuniary benefits. Is this your true grace?

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 50 (Killing of Vatsasura and Bakasura)

KILLING OF VATSASURA AND BAKASURA

After reaching Vrndavana, where everyone lives eternally, very peacefully and happily, they encircled Vrndavana and kept the carts all together. After seeing the beautiful appearance of Govardhana on the bank of the river Yamuna, they began to construct their places of residence. While those of the same age were walking together and children were talking with their parents, the inhabitants of Vrndavana felt very happy.

At this time Krishna and Balarama were given charge of the calves. The first responsibility of the cowherd boys was to take care of the little calves. The boys are trained in this from the very beginning of their childhood. So along with other little cowherd boys, Krishna and Balarama went into the pasturing ground and took charge of the calves and played with Their playmates. While taking charge of the calves, sometimes the two brothers played on Their flutes. And sometimes They played with amalaki fruits and bael fruits, just like small children play with balls. Sometimes They danced and made tinkling sounds with Their ankle bells. Sometimes They made Themselves into bulls and cows by covering Themselves with blankets. Thus Krishna and Balarama played. The two brothers also used to imitate the sounds of bulls and cows and play at bullfighting. Sometimes They used to imitate the sounds of various animals and birds. In this way, They enjoyed Their childhood pastimes apparently like ordinary, mundane children.

Essence of Shivananda Lahari

Sri Ramana Maharshi selected ten verses from Shivananda Lahari, the famous composition of Adi Shankaracharya in Sanskrit consisting of one hundred verses in praise of Lord Shiva and arranged them in a specific order (Verse 61, 76, 83, 6, 65, 10, 12, 9, 11, 91). These verses are very potent in invoking the Grace of Lord Siva. They also contain spiritual ideas which are revealing, inspiring and insightful. One of the verses asks “Kim Durlabham” meaning what is impossible for one who worships Lord Siva. The verses also cautions readers against fruitless worship of superficial gods.

Once Kanchi Sri Paramacharya was giving a series of upanyasams in Chennai on Shivananda Lahari (during 1930's). A devotee approached Paramacharya seeking his opinion on reciting the selected ten slokas of Shivananda Lahari. (Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi has prescribed these 10 slokas from Shivananda Lahari in a specific order for devotees who find it difficult to recite all the hundred slokas daily). Endorsing this, Paramacharya replied..."Yes, you can do so... Why question when Sri Ramana Maharshi himself  prescribed this?"

56 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 56)

BE ABLE TO CHARM ONE AND ALL

Onraay arumbi, palavaay virindhu, iv ulagu engumaay
ninraal, anaiththaiyum neengi nirpaal-enran, nensinulle
ponraadhu ninru puriginravaa! ip porul arivaar-

Abhirami! You have blossomed as the Abhirami-flower and you spread as many forms and you are present everywhere. Either you present or absent in certain things, but definitely from my heart your presence is quite inseparable and you reign in my heart. The meanings of all these phenomena are known only to Vishnu, who (Vishnu) on the judgment- day would lie on the Banyan leaf and my Shiva also knows all these. (both Shiva and Vishnu are one and the same).

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 49 (Journey to Brindavan)

JOURNEY TO BRINDAVAN

Vrindavan, a village - once noted for its fragrant groves, is where he spent an eventful youth. Brindaban, this holy place is the site of the original forest or forested region, in which Lord Krishna spent his childhood. It is believed that Lord Krishna was raised there in the cow-herding village of Gokula by His foster parents .

Upset by the various bad happenings,The falling of the trees and other such incidents, which had disturbed the minds of the Gopas, who felt these, were bad omens, as they were not aware of Thy divine glory and power;  the Yadavas decide to move out of Gokula shift to Vrindavana (literally forest of Thulasi) near the Govardhana mountain as well as on the banks of river Yamuna.. Krishna likes the new place and started wandering here and therewith  other cowherd boys in grazing the calves.
